I was supposed to be named MacKenzie but pops didn’t want me to be called ‘Big Mac’.
He was a Navy Pilot, so from a young age I had traveled most of the country, and learned to make new friends quick.
I picked up the upright bass in elementary school and never looked back — something about jazz music seemed rebellious to me, and I couldn’t follow my brothers footsteps and play soccer.
I earned the rank of Eagle Scout at 16 and hiked over 600 miles during my time in Scouts - but I’m most proud that I can get from Marcy Ave to Broadway Lafayette in 25 minutes or less.
I graduated high school and applied for the Coast Guard Academy as a legacy with high grades. I was a shoe-in — until I didn’t get in.
